The Soul of a City

Each city has its own distinguished tales and stories and these tales and stories, usually bore by its streets, are the most important elements of the soul of a city. There are so many famous cities around the world possessing the beautiful and ancient streets. But few of them, can compete with the old streets in Shanghai, an outstanding city in China.

If you are on a shanghai tour, you have to pay a visit to these five streets, otherwise, you are not able

On the top of the list should be the Nanjing Road. Unlike most of the ancient streets, the old Nanjing Road is actually a commercial street. This street is 5.5 kilometers long with more than 600 stores on both sides and it was built in 19th century. This street is probably the best representative of Shanghai, because just like Shanghai, a world famous commercial city, this street is also famous for its business. Everything you need you can find it here. Home or abroad, you name it. This street is exactly a mix of Eastern and Western spirits.

Massenet Rue, the second one on my list, shows a different side of Shanghai. Delicate, perhaps in the only word for this street. This street reminds people of the life in 1930s which was a time of delicacy. Surrounded by the tall plane trees, the Massenet Rue appears mysterious and delicate.

Then you have to visit the Anfu Road as well. This road is like a middle aged beautiful lady, who is quite and elegant. Nothing makes her worry or haste. The pace in this street is slow and calm. You will surprisingly notice that the modern drama is maintained so well in this place. Comfortable bars and coffee shops can be found here. If you found yourself exhausted, please spend some time here to enjoy the quiet moment here.

The Huashan Road is the next choice. In the day time, Huashan Road seems to be busy and noisy, but when the night comes, everything begins to be quite. It is like a human being exactly, who is alive and lovely in the day and turns to be quite at night because of his tiredness.

Last but not least is the Wu Ding Xi Road. Because of a famous novelist Eileen Chang, this road becomes a synonym for romance. No more description should be made here. All that you can do is to have a stroll there by yourself.

The old Shanghai streets are beyond comparison. A real visit to Shanghai will tell you the charm of Shanghai.
